Healing is a gentle, non-invasive complementary therapy that involves the transfer of natural energy through the healer to the client. There is no physical manipulation or massage involved, only light touch is used. Healing aims to promote self-healing by relaxing the body, releasing tensions and re-energising the immune system. Healing energises body, mind and spirit. Its effects can be felt on many levels, not just the physical. People who receive healing often experience profound emotional, spiritual and physical benefits. Reported benefits include pain relief and uplift in physical well-being, emotions and attitude. Healers are now part of the NHS support system.
The National Federation of Spiritual Healers (NFSH) website refers to comments by Dr Michael Dixon, Chair of the NHS Alliance who 12 years ago introduced a Healer into his Devon surgery. In a paper for the Royal Society of Medicine Dr Dixon reported on how useful Healers had been in the practice for patients with physical complaints and also in terms of general well-being and relief for stress and depression. Dr Dixon recently commented that:
“The public demand for a more holistic approach to healthcare should be welcomed by the NHS. Complementary treatments such as healing can make a valuable contribution to patient care and can potentially save the NHS money in the long-term if used in conjunction with conventional treatment.?”
Healing can be helpful to those suffering from anxiety and other related emotional or physical symptoms derived from childhood trauma or having been a victim of violent crime.
