Developed by William Fitzgerald in the 1900's in the USA, but known in China as a healing therapy for many thousands of years, Reflexology is based on the acupuncture system of meridians running throughout the body, accessible throughout the feet (and hands and head).
Reflexology uses deep compression massage to detect and release blocked energy in the organs and the rest of the body. Pressure is applied to certain parts of the feet and hands in order to promote relaxation and healing elsewhere in the body.
Reflexology is a science based on the belief that each part of the body is interconnected through the nervous system to the hands and feet. Stimulating specific reflex points in the feet can bring needed nutrients to poorly functioning areas of the body. This can help restore balance throughout the body and is particularly helpful in the relief of stress related conditions.
Almost a quarter of all the bones in the body are contained within the feet!
With 28 separate bones, over 7,000 nerve endings and an intricate web of muscles in each foot, our feet bear the weight of our body, balance us, absorb shock of movement and of course allow us to move forward.
The feet are the weight bearers of our body. They balance us, absorb shock and allow us to go forward. They hold the key to reflex points within our body, and by using carefully mapped out pressure points, can help us to assist the body in re-balancing and re-adjusting the energy flow to all the systems of the body.
