Susannah, a qualified Psychological Counsellor, is Chief Executive of the AURORA HEALTH FOUNDATION. She is herself a survivor of both male and female sexual abuse in childhood and using her pseudonym of Lucy Jenner, has participated in TV documentaries and Radio Phone-Ins to highlight the huge issue of sexual abuse of children and its often emotionally paralysing effects on adulthood. Susannah has spoken at Conferences & Marches in London and been part of Training Schedules for Child Protection Programmes.
During her own healing process Susannah found that talking therapies were just not enough:“I found that there were so many barriers I had built up over the years that 1 or 2 hours a week talking about my issues would not open up the areas of deep despair and shame. I realised I couldn’t just let go......I needed to find other holistic therapies and healing to access and move through my pain. A range of sensitive and empathic complementary therapists and counsellors I found along the way helped me to gradually come out of my emotional prison.
It wasn’t until I briefly visited a crisis centre where Movement and Art therapies were accessible on site that I began to see the effectiveness of having a place where a range of therapies and services were available. It was the beginning of my journey to find the key to open my own Pandora’s box in a safe and caring place.
It has taken me a lifetime to find the therapies that have helped me. It was like looking for a needle in a haystack. My vision for the place I call the AURORA HEALTH FOUNDATION is to put all those therapies in one place to better help survivors find their way through their own personal hell. It is my life purpose to bring this vision of healing to fruition and enable others to reclaim the joy and happiness that was stolen from them in childhood.”
Up to now, Susannah's work has been carried out under the pseudonym of Lucy Jenner, but after some recent events she has decided to come ‘out’ and speak candidly about her own experiences to encourage and inspire other survivors that it is possible to heal from early violation and trauma.
Nick’s main area of work has been mental health research and evaluation. Originally training as a mental health nurse (RMN), Nick went on to complete an honours degree in psychology followed by a many years in the academic mental health field, most recently for the Sainsbury Centre for Mental Health in London.
Nick is the Business Development Manager for the AURORA HEALTH FOUNDATION and the Group Facilitator for the Partners' Support Group.
Annabel is an holistic and spiritual teacher who facilitates groups and workshops to support and help people cope and come to terms with the consequences of their trauma. She does this in a friendly and compassionate manner. Although there is of course a seriousness to the work she does, Annabel also complements this with humour and encouragement.
Annabel is also a trained sports therapy massage (STM) practitioner. STM is excellent for lymph drainage and stress-related disorders and provides a calming and relaxing treatment that helps to rejuvenate and restore the body back to it's natural state. It is also good for tension, cellulite and back problems.
Indaka has been practicing Thai Massage and Indian Head Massage since 2003. He trained in the UK and is a member of the Complementary Therapist Association (CThA).
Indaka combines the skills of his training with the wisdom that comes from treating many people with diverse needs and backgrounds to create a safe and respectful space in which you can truly relax.
His treatments are gentle and involve the continual assessment of your individual needs and requirements to ensure a supportive and therapeutic treatment.
Jane has a BSc in Psychology and Counselling, a Postgraduate Certificate in Art and Play in Therapeutic Work with Children and a Postgraduate Diploma in the Therapeutic & Educational Application for the Arts. She is currently studying for an MA in Integrative Child Psychotherapy.
Jane has worked for many years in the creative field as a TV Producer and has also done much voluntary work. She was a Childline Counsellor for 6 years and a creative Therapist in a school for a charity called Place 2B. She also loved the Art and Play Certificate so much that she went on to help teach the course for 3 years, encouraging adults who were working with children to have a creative slant to their work.
Jane has a great interest in the Body Mind Spirit connection, and the effect they have on each other. She believes that the unconscious is the key and likes to encourage creativity as a means of expression, thinking that this is the gentlest way to access painful or buried feelings as well as the infinite wisdom we all have inside us.
Jason has been involved in healing for over 10 years. In this time he has been studying with Tareth, a healer and spiritual teacher based in Glastonbury. He has continued to develop his healing with the National Federation of Spiritual Healing (NFSH) where he has recently become a full healer member.
Spiritual Healing is about treating the whole person. It energises body, mind and spirit and so its effects can be felt on many levels, not just the physical.
Spiritual Healing is not linked to a particular religion. Faith by the patient is not required and healing can help people regardless of their religious beliefs.
Healing energy is all around us. In essence, it is 'universal' - part of nature itself. It is available for everyone to use for the greatest good. Healers learn to use their ability to tap into this natural energy and pass it on.
Joanna is a Holistic Healer and a Spiritual Teacher who works with many different modalities and at many levels. She has been a full/healer/member of the National Federation of Spiritual Healers for many years and is also qualified as a Crystal Healer and as a Homoeobotanical (herbal) practitioner. She is also a qualified Bach Flower Remedy practitioner and Hopi Ear Candler.
Joanna has a metaphysical approach to healing and believes that illness and disease are the outcomes of our thought patterns, both at a conscious and unconscious level. She believes that by healing at a cellular level it is possible to reverse this process and very gently release damaging thought patterns and emotional traumas. This can very often be achieved without the client needing to re-live or talk about these distressing thoughts or events.
Joanna's crystal treatments are deeply relaxing, but they also direct her to where the body has chosen to store its negative energy. Further treatments can clear the body of these negative memories and during this time Joanna also uses specific crystal elixirs. These help to support and calm the client during the release of what can often be very painful emotions.
Mary is an Integrative Psychotherapist/Counsellor. On a voluntary basis, she has 10 years experience of working for Victim Support supporting rape and domestic violence victims/survivors and people bereaved by homicide as well as 9 years working as a bereavement counsellor. She also worked as a volunteer counsellor for a Womens' Group and as an alcohol counsellor. She has run a small private counselling practice in Worcester Park for 7 years. Her particular interests are attachment and trauma and she believes that an holistic approach is necessary for healing.
Mary also works as a trainer for Victim Support and is a part-time Teacher on a Counselling Diploma evening course.
Michelle once led a very hectic lifestyle as a Property Landlord, but the pressures of constantly having to make deals led her to wonder if a fast-paced lifestyle was for her. Luckily she had a holistic therapist in the family who needed willing guinea pigs! The first treatment Michelle volunteered for was Reiki. A previous skeptic into all things alternative she found herself lost for words during her experience. She found herself trying many more alternative therapies, from massage to Kinesiology.
After completing Tera Mai™ Reiki Level 1 and 2 life began to change for Michelle; making deals wasn't as important as her self-development and helping other people, so her priorities changed. This led her to become a Tera Mai™ Reiki Master, fully qualified to teach others this wonderful techique. Michelle is a member of the Tera Mai™ Reiki Association and she also studied EFT and branched out into massage. Passionate about Massage and Reiki and their emotional and mental health benefits, Michelle now teaches Reiki and Massage part-time and offers one on one Massage and Reiki treatments and group Reiki sessions here at Aurora.
Pete has been a Spiritual Healer for a number of years. He has trained with the National Federation of Spiritual Healers (NFSH) and has gained full healership. Pete believes that life experiences have helped him ascertain his knowledge to more intuitive forms of healing and what is best for the client.
Pete also practices Reflexology and Indian Head Massage. Reflexology can be given on its own or sometimes given in combination with Healing to form a unique blend of the two healing arts “Heal-flexology”, which involves working either from the head first, or from the feet upwards depending on a client's individual need. Indian Head Massage is a therapy Pete likens to a soothing “slow relaxing dance of energy”.
Mel is an experienced and sensitive practitioner who offers a unique form of Homeopathy for the individual.
She also uses Bach Flower Essences to enable clients to find their own inner strengths and potential.
