What Are We?
The AURORA HEALTH FOUNDATION is a specialist therapy centre that was founded by a Survivor/Therapist in late 2006 to provide services primarily for adult men and women victims of childhood sexual abuse (CSA), but also for associated abuse such as physical, emotional and psychological trauma. In addition, Aurora has developed a particular focus on helping adult victims of Female Sexual Abuse in childhood. Aurora also offers help to the people who support victims of CSA in their healing journey, including partners, family members and even friends.
As a specialist service we are aware of the usefulness of bodywork therapies for victims of CSA. We recognise that these interventions can help people overcome the stresses and anxieties with body image they may experience as a result of their traumatic experience(s). We also feel that they can help victims who are unable or unwilling to discuss their emotions or memories via a "talking therapy" consultation.
We therefore offer a combination of "talking therapy" (i.e. counselling) and "bodywork therapy" (i.e. complementary therapies) interventions in which clients are encouraged to make their own choices in the therapy or combination of therapies they receive. We believe that giving clients control of their therapy contract empowers them in their own journey to recovery. To move from "Victims" to becoming "Survivors".
The Aurora Team, many of whom are survivors and supporters of survivors, are experienced and dedicated health professionals wishing to make a positive difference to clients. We all work together to offer a unique blend of counselling, support and complementary therapies for aiding recovery.
